HOPG Films

Due to increased thermal conductivity, high radiation and thermal stability HOPG films can serve as radiation filters and heat spreaders.

Thin films of HOPG are used as stripping material in cyclotrons. The films strip electrons from the accelerated particles and are subjected to extreme thermal loads. The structural features of the HOPG-flex form permit to produce films with a size of a few cm2 and only of 1 to 5 µm thick. The high purity, high electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as minimum stress within the film ensure a long service life under experimental condition and make those films very popular among the cyclotron community [Rao, Y.-N , 2013], [Bylinskii, Yu,2018].

Similar advantages make the films also suitable as transparent X-ray window. Recently, HOPG films are used as an entrance window of test cells for in-operando and in-situ analysis of energy storage systems. Consisted of pure carbon HOPG films are only 30% heavier than beryllium, stable, impermeable, ecologically friendly and chemically neutral. They do not induce artefacts in the processes under investigation [Zech C., 2021].
